What sound card should a college radio station use ? (backstory) (thanks, Creative !)

Another obstacle of getting back on the air: our sound card is broken.

We had a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS Platinum Pro sound card which transfers the output from the mixing board to the its External I/O Hub . Then a Firewire cord and another one is bundled together and connected

Now, The “AD Link 2” port on the hub does not recognize the firewire cord connected to it. No sound is coming out of it….  However, if you wiggle that cord in the slot just right, sound will be transmitted for a second or two, and then ends.

– Warrenty: No dice – it expired already.

– buy another cord: possible,  but I tried the other end of the cord (that was connected to the internal sound card) on the external hub and still the same problem. I don’t know if the cord will solve the problem. The cord is proprietary, so we’ll have to get a new one.

I posted it on the creative forum a few days ago and it hasn’t received any responses yet.

We’ll see if the college IT and media services has any suggestions.
